On this site, there are seven samples of
German Lieder
composed
by Johann Karl Brandeis between 1934 and 1961
representing very different styles:
the first two, from 1934, represent his earliest attempts in song writing, one
in a folk song/operetta
style, the other one in a kind of Russian folk song style, nos.
3-4,
in a late romantic style,
show some similarities to the Lieder composed by Richard
Strauss,
while nos. 5-7 are more chromatic and atonal in nature.
Hans Brandeis, tenor (son of the composer)
Lothar A. Runze, piano (Nos. 1-2)
Peter Porticos, piano (Nos. 3-7)
Recorded live
